Losing it

As many people know by now, I’m quite talented (gifted really) at losing stuff, like my keys, cell phone, earrings, socks, stapler, credit card, remote, water bottle, camera, tickets, spatula, sunglasses, license, magazines, Ipod, cup of coffee, etc. But the only thing I can never seem to lose is weight.

Over the past months I’ve gained a few pounds, even though I don’t feel like I’ve done anything different. So I’ve gone back to cutting out that glass of wine (except for weekends and book club) and reducing calories (except for holidays, parties, and family dinners) and upping the treadmill (except when I’m too busy which is often).

I’m convinced it has to do with the days getting shorter, signaling my metabolism to slow down.  If I actually hibernated (which sounds soooo nice) then that would make sense.  But I still have to get up at 6:45 everyday and plow through the cold and dark hours. Shouldn’t that technically take more energy??

The truth is, I rarely “lose” stuff per se – I mostly “misplace” stuff.  So I’m starting to think that’s what’s happening with any pounds I shed during the warmer months. They aren’t gone – instead, they’re hiding in the back of the closet or under the car seat or behind the ice cream in the freezer. Waiting to reappear where I least expect to find them.

Now, if I only knew where I misplaced my memory…………
